This park is a remnant Brigalow Belah Scrub. There are three fairly distinct vegetation groups based on -Mountain Coolibah in the North East corner -Brigalow along the road to the west and -Belah forming an arc around the southern boundary. As you walk around the marked walking trail, look for the many species of reptiles, birds and other fauna. Enjoy your visit to Irongate but please leave it as undisturbed as possible and take your rubbish with you.
This is a joint project of :- R.E.E.P. participants Pittsworth & District Landcare Assoc. Inc. Dept. of Employment Education & Training Pittsworth Shire Council Dept. of Environment & Heritage Greening Australia Local Landholders.
I made this blog after visiting Irongate Reserve on 3 August 2008. We were unable to obtain any information at the Sunkist Cafe in Pittsworth so the advisory sign near the gate is out of date and I felt the need for a printed list while following the path. Anyone planning to visit the reserve may wish to print out the list of plants from this blog as an aid. Click on the photos to enlarge and examine details. Your comments, particularly on seasonal flowering and fruits, and also wildlife, would be appreciated. I am interested in learning about the remnant vegetation of this area. You may like to visit the Franke Scrub blog as well.
